When I first woke up I found myself aloof and my mind otherwise engaged. Such frivolity quickly dispersed though. Indulging for a single day with the people who matter most is the least I could do after such a lengthy and turbulent journey to take me to this point. There have been more ups and down’s than many would have the exertion to count. But I have finally arrived.

My degree classification finally came today,  and I’m happy enough. Furthermore, given the events of the past few days, I appreciated even more intensely the people there to celebrate such a moment with me. We headed to the old Post Office for afternoon hot drinks and cakes, and afterwards, the cinema. Not that it matters, but we saw the Hulk – and it was hardly a classic.

Today I had my last Law exam at Queens University. It has been a long road, and now I’ve reached the end. Before sitting the exam, I slowly wandered the paths and through the buildings I’ve come to know so well – now sitting empty and forlorn in the lonely morning sun. There was an air of serenity – as if these surroundings would soon lie dormant, in my world at least.

Listening to music is said to ease examination stress, but it doesn’t work for me. Nor does going for a walk, taking pictures or playing games. Believe me, i’ve tried them all. No, when you’re in the midst of sitting Law exams, there isn’t a second in the day that goes by without it haunting your mind. Even in my sleep I find myself doing some form of vague revision. It is oddly effective.

It’s the final week of term and students are scurrying around like little birds,  leaping from tree to tree, and branch to branch, trying desperately to find that extra book, cite that additional article and complete their coursework on time. All lectures are now revision lectures, detailing the examinations that breathe so heavily in the shadows. The weather has been predictably glorious.
