Flying from Athens to Istanbul may only take one hour, but the visual and cultural metamorphosis that happens along the way is unequivocal. The old clichés of ‘East meets West’, and ‘the bridge between Europe and Asia’ are wholly substantiated. This city really is at the crossroads of civilisation, and it’s this eccentric and fantastic synthesis that makes the place so very fascinating.
