Lucerne’s nicest features are that of Chapel Bridge and the surrounding lake. But there’s much more to enjoy – from the delights of the old town and getting lost in the maze of souvenir shops, to just sitting back on a relaxing cruise  steamer and appreciating the views and welcoming atmosphere of one of Central Europe’s more pleasing locales.

Switzerland quickly became one of my favourite countries in all of Europe. Maybe it’s the perpetual neutrality, but the valley’s and mountains have a sense of peace about them. Everything is well run and accessible. The Swiss possess efficiency in league with the Germans, but they are more relaxed about it. Moreover, you have the feeling of being somewhere quite upmarket.
