Back in 1989, Malta wasn’t the typical package destination it has since become. If anything it was still a rather rough, rustic and underdeveloped Mediterranean locale – as unpopular as it was untamed. Maybe that’s why I liked it. The traffic was crazy, the infrastructure broken – even the kids amusement parks I loved playing in so much were fun but a little bit perilous.
