Rice fields, a dormant Volcano, spectacular scenery and Indonesian fries. Cheeky monkeys,  one of the world’s most colourful cultures and the general delight of dipping your toe in an environment completely different to your own. This was one of those days that I’ll always remember. Bali really is a beautiful, beautiful place. The Indonesian fries weren’t half bad either!

The first thing I did in Bali (besides get transported from the airport by a local tour guide with a croaked voice) was to fall asleep during the final of Euro 2000. The next morning, I awoke up to the sound of a gentle sea breeze. We were staying at a resort on the south of Bali, and already the beauty of the place was becoming apparent.
