The Sibelius express from Rautatieasema station in Helsinki is how we’ll get to Russia. 3 hours take us along the south coast of Finland and closer to the prevailing overtone of the forthcoming border.  It’s as if the landscape outside is transitioning from the last remnants of Scandinavia into the vast expansiveness of the Russian frontier.

With no way for natural light to penetrate my inward pointing cabin, i’m largely unaware of our arrival in the port of Helsinki. But with the ever increasing commotion in neighbouring cabins, I figure something must be up. So I pull on some clothes and clamber up on deck to catch first glimpses of the new country I’ve arrived in.
