We decided the Tuk Tuk rides of yesterday were really quite fun, and that it’d be great to get on another one and career about town like maniacs. Truth be told though, Siem Reap is one big construction site. What was once a formerly quiet village is now being transformed with the hotels, restaurants and banks of multinational companies. Perhaps it’s a necessary compromise.

Climbing onto our rented Tuk-Tuk for the day, we accelerate a little and then splutter hesitantly through the morning motorbikes and dirty air of Siem Reap. We’re leaving the dustbowl behind and heading about 4 miles out of town to the ancient and mysterious ruins of the Khmer built Angkor temple complex – a UN World Heritage site and one of the new wonders of the world.

After a much needed day of rest sampling the delights of Cambodian television, we take a trip out of town to Tonlé Sap Lake. The area is completely removed from the booming tourist town we’ve been based in, and so it’s much more of an authentic glimpse into how locals live – and for many of them that means floating water villages during the months of wet season.

Tiger Airways kindly kept their end of the bargain and delivered us safely the Kuala Lumpur Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) – a smaller, out of the way, less handsome version of the plush, award winning KLIA. For me, it was the second time in Malaysia in 8 days, and for Craig – the first time in 8 years. We’d only be stopping for one night in KL. Cambodia awaited us tomorrow.
